Unlike most plants Lithops have two growing seasons and two dormant seasons per year. Overwatering is the biggest risk in growing these plants. Give water as the soil is about to dry out in the spring through early summer, and in the fall.  Keep dryer in the winter and in very hot summer weather. Hot weather makes them and most mesembs go dormant, and wet roots during dormancy can lead to rot.
