Gymnocalycium friedrichii A gorgeous species that is dark orange to purple red, often with pink. High light and keeping the plants on the dry side is needed to maintain the color at this level, otherwise it will become more green. I find that my plants colors up nicely from spring through fall, gets greenish in the winter, then colors up nicely again in the spring. So don't worry if it loses some color, giving it more light will change it back fairly quickly. Flowers are a pretty pink color. Generally doesn't clump. Mature plants are usually around 4-5" wide. Takes normal cactus care. Protect from frost.
